Introduction - the Supersonic Air wipe
When an aircraft breaks the sound barrier, it creates a shockwave, which is sufficiently forceful
to break window pans on the ground nearby. Such a shockwave does exist in an air wipe when the
airflow transits from the subsonic to supersonic, evidenced by shattered constricting orifices made
of ruby or sapphire in lab experiments. Regrettably, photographic evidences substantiating the
shattering in process akin to the one shown above have yet to be taken.
